The Vision
"Redesign Google Maps to provide users with a seamless and intuitive navigation experience. By simplifying the interface and enhancing the information hierarchy, we aim to make navigating the world faster, easier, and more efficient for travellers."

The Current Journey
Looking for a Cafe to Study
User Profile
I chose visitors as the primary user for this project. A visitor refers to individuals who visit to an unfamiliar place and they use google maps for navigating and exploring the location.
I created a user profile - Join Hui as an sample to better the current journey.

He uses Google Maps regularly for navigating the city

Workflow Analysis
I identified 4 areas that could be improved from the entire workflow.

Organization
The information on the home page is overwhelming and it looks disorganized.

Navigation
On the search page, it only shows the recent search information. Other things showing on the homepage are gone.
Before & After
Based on my analysis, I created a new design for the google maps home page.
Final Deliverable
Here is the workflow with the new design.

Takeaway
The Power of Focus on One Experience
This project taught me a valuable lesson about redesigning: it’s crucial to focus on one key experience and really dig into it. In the past, I’ve often tried to tackle multiple issues at once, even when they weren’t connected. This approach can backfire because fixing just one part might cause us to lose sight of how everything fits together. By taking a step back and looking at the entire user journey, I realized that addressing issues across different stages of the workflow is essential for improving the overall experience.
