Day 4: Practicing Grid System and Responsives Design

3 Jul 2023

Work hours: 4hrs

Today, I want to share a bit about my UI design journey with Figma. I've been using this fantastic tool for around 4 years now, and I consider myself an intermediate user. Most of my knowledge and skills have come from hands-on practice and experience. You see, during my time in school, the UX class didn't really focus on practical skills or techniques. But now, I feel pretty confident with the software, and I think it's time to take my skills to the next level by learning from the pros.

When it comes to evaluating the skills of a UI/UX designer, we often overvalue our research and analytical abilities while undervaluing our software skills. However, mastering the software we use day in and day out can bring tremendous benefits to our work. It allows us to visualize ideas more easily and increases our efficiency in handling design tasks. Basically, it boosts our execution abilities to new heights.

So, I decided to look for some "Pro Tips" tutorials on YouTube and give them a try. Let me tell you, they've been pretty helpful! I've learned some awesome shortcuts that I never knew existed, yet I find myself using them all the time. Plus, it's fantastic to see how professionals approach basic design tasks in a more professional manner. At school, we didn't always have enough time to focus on honing these skills, as our attention was heavily placed on developing our strategic thinking. It's important to strike a balance, so we don't just talk the talk but also walk the walk. That's why I'm pushing myself to practice more and more, striving to become an advanced executor.

Now, let's talk about what I practiced today! I followed a tutorial to create a simple grid system, and boy, it may seem straightforward, but it's super practical. I can already envision how I'll apply these techniques to future projects. It's these small exercises that build the foundation for bigger achievements down the road.

That's all for today, folks! Stay tuned for more updates on my adventures. Remember, we're all in this creative journey together! 🚀💪
