Overview

As an alumnus of The Open University of Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to contribute to the school's rebranding effort when it announced its retitling to "Hong Kong Metropolitan University" in 2021. I entered the public logo design competition, aiming to create a logo that represents the new chapter of the university without straying too far from its original design.

To achieve this, I transformed the original 2D shape into a modern 3D version with overlapping shapes, creating a flexible and dynamic illusion. While considering various perspectives during the brainstorming process, I ultimately chose a design that highlights the university's flexibility, modernity, and diversity instead of relying on literal representations of a city or buildings.

As an alumnus, I have a strong attachment to the university's original logo and its branding identity. Thus, I sought to create a design that builds upon the original shape while adding a fresh and modern twist. I am proud to present my logo design as a representation of the university's new chapter and its commitment to keeping up with the fast-changing world.
